Collection, storage and treatment of fridges, freezers and similar cooling equipment

There is currently a nationwide issue with the ongoing collection, storage and treatment of fridges, freezers and similar cooling equipment.

How to dispose of fridges, freezers and cooling equipment in Hampshire

The responsibility for making arrangements to properly treat waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), including fridges and freezers lies with the manufacturers. Most councils support these arrangements by providing collection facilities for WEEE at their HWRCs.

Because of problems in fridge and freezer processing capacity nationally, there is a build-up of these goods at HWRCs in Hampshire and surrounding areas, and storage facilities are currently limited.

Please check in advance with your local HWRC that there is sufficient storage at the site to accept your fridge or freezer at this time.

Hampshire County Council and Veolia continue to work closely to mitigate this situation and seek alternative suitable storage solutions.
