Veolia Welcomes Residents To Basingstoke Open Day

Residents in Chineham and neighbouring areas of Basingstoke are invited to take a look behind the scenes at the Chineham Energy Recovery Facility on Saturday 28 July 2012. Veolia Environmental Services, operators of the site, will be holding the special Wonder Open Day and all visitors are welcome.

PLEASE NOTE THIS EVENT TOOK PLACE IN 2012. For the 2013 open days, see our latest Wonder Open Day pages.

The event is designed to show how an energy-from-waste facility works and turns waste into a resource.

During the day visitors can experience:

·                     A behind-the-scenes tour of the facility
·                     A visit to the control room
·                     Educational games for younger visitors

Facility Manager, Andy Macqueen of Veolia Environmental Services said:

“We think this is a great opportunity for our neighbours and local residents to come and explore what happens at our site. We hope people will come to meet us and gain an inside view on how we are working behind the scenes on their behalf!”
Chineham Energy Recovery Facility is part of the Project Integra network of waste management infrastructure, designed to handle Hampshire’s household waste and recycling.  In Hampshire just 10% of our household waste is sent to landfill – topping the league tables for waste diverted from landfill.
