Christmas Collection Changes

Important information regarding your waste and recycling collections over the festive period

Veolia and Haringey Council are reminding residents that there are some changes to waste and recycling collection arrangements over the Christmas and New Year period.

Due to the way the days have fallen this year, residents that normally receive their recycling and general waste collections on Fridays are the only residents to be affected by changes to their service.

Collections that are scheduled for Christmas Day, which is a Friday, will now be made on Sunday 27th December, while the next collection, scheduled for New Year’s Day, will be made on Saturday 2nd January.  All other collections are unaffected, including the Bank Holiday Monday on 28th December.

With all the extra waste that gets generated at this time of year, Veolia and Haringey Council are encouraging all residents to recycle as much as possible this Christmas and make use of the food waste collection service to recycle any leftover food, turkey carcasses, tea bags and coffee grounds.  You can even recycle your Christmas trees by cutting them up and putting them in your garden waste bin.  Non-shiny wrapping paper and Christmas cards can be recycled too.

Veolia’s Senior Contract Manager in Haringey, Paul Peters, said: “We are pleased to announce there will only be minimal changes to our service over Christmas and New Year. Our crews will be working hard to ensure all the excess waste that gets generated at this time of year gets cleared, so we urge residents to ensure they put the correct items in the correct bins. We’d like to wish all Haringey residents a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

For further information on items that can be recycled please refer to your Waste and Recycling Service Guide, email [email protected] or call the Veolia Contact Centre on 020 8885 7700.

Residents will be also able to take their materials and Christmas trees to the borough’s two Reuse & Recycling Centres in Tottenham and Wood Green every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Please visit www.haringey.gov.uk/environment-and-waste for details on what can and cannot be accepted at the sites and visit www.wiseuptowaste.org.uk for plenty of fun facts and interesting information about reducing, reusing and recycling your festive waste.
