Haringey Council’s recycling and waste management services provider Veolia teamed up with Noel Park Primary School and residents from The Sandlings estate to litterpick their local area as part of the Clean for the Queen campaign.
Eleven children from the school’s Eco-Group, two teachers and seven Sandlings residents donned hi-viz vests and protective gloves and were given litterpickers and different coloured sacks to fill up with waste and recycling found on the ground. In total ten bags were filled with general rubbish, while four were filled with materials that could be recycled.
Veolia’s Communications, Education & Outreach Manager in Haringey, Dan Lester, said: “It was an excellent turnout and demonstrates how we can work together with members of the community of all ages to help make a difference to local areas. A special mention must go to all the children for their unwavering enthusiasm and the pride they showed in wanting to do as thorough a job as possible.”
Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Stuart McNamara, said: “It’s wonderful to see Haringey children taking such an interest in their environment and demonstrating such a good example in helping to keep their local area clean. The Clean for the Queen campaign is a great way of building on the important work that Team Noel Park and Veolia are doing to improve the Noel Park neighbourhood. We are determined to use our powers to crack down on litterbugs and fly-tippers but we also want to ensure that the vast majority of people who do the right thing are properly recognised as well.”
