Haringey Helps FoodCycle's Fight Against Hunger

Veolia and community join together for a fundraising feast

The team at Veolia Haringey held an International Food Tasting Evening to raise money for the company’s chosen charity FoodCycle.

Cultivating the culinary delights of cultures from across the world, over 60 attendees from the local community and various Veolia contracts enjoyed a fantastic feast of food, all expertly created by Veolia Haringey staff representing their own global backgrounds.  It was a true celebration of the diversity of Veolia’s workforce and the Haringey community. There were dishes from Yemen to Guyana to Cyprus to Brazil to Jamaica - and more besides!

Importantly, over £830 was raised for FoodCycle through the sale of entry tickets to the event, dishes prices at a pound per portion, a charity raffle, and cash donations.

Libby Brown, FoodCycle’s Senior Fundraising Officer, attended the event and addressed the guests, saying: “It’s wonderful to see Veolia Haringey and the wider community come together in support of FoodCycle’s work. The diversity of both the dishes created and the guests eating them is a fantastic representation of what happens at our projects across the country each and every day.”

Dan Lester, Communications, Education & Outreach Manager for Veolia Haringey, said: “Thanks to everyone who made the event such a success, from the event organisers to the chefs to the guests - it was a fabulous evening enjoyed by all and we raised a fantastic amount of money for this worthy cause.”

Guests raved about the event – here’s a selection of their comments:

“Thanks for inviting me to a fantastic evening of great food and good company.  I really enjoyed it.”

“This was a wonderful idea for a worthy charity. However, it was not a ‘tasting’ evening, it was a feast fit for royalty. The food lovingly prepared by the organisers far surpassed restaurant quality! Bravo to the organisers! So very happy to have attended the event and I had a great time networking and knowing the other charities Veolia Haringey supports.”

“We really enjoyed it and the food was really yummy!”

“It was a great event last week. The lovely lady from Montserrat made me eat Goat Juice even after I was full up. Big up the dumpling maker!”

“Can I just say a big thank you. The food was amazing and it was such a great atmosphere.  Such a great way to raise money.”

FoodCycle works to reduce food poverty and social isolation by serving nutritious three-course meals to vulnerable people – all made using surplus supermarket food that would otherwise have gone to waste.
