Remember to recycle your Christmas tree and raise money for charity

For every 50 tonnes of Christmas trees and other green waste received at the recycling centres during January, Veolia will donate £100 to Portland College, which is the chosen charity of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Chairman Councillor Yvonne Woodhead.

The specialist college, based near Mansfield works with people with disabilities to develop their employability, independence and communication skills.

Lea Hawkes, General Manager for Veolia Nottinghamshire commented: “Treecycling is a great way to be both green and help a very worthy cause. The trees will be shredded for composting’.

Councillor Jim Creamer, chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s environment and sustainability committee said:

“Rather than be left to rot at the bottom of the garden, we’re urging residents with real Christmas trees to take them to one of the County Council’s 12 recycling centres this month.”

“By doing so, you’ll be helping the environment and raising money for a worthwhile charity at the same time.”

Damon Musgrove of Portland College said:

“This treecycle campaign is a fantastic initiative and will help the college raise money for a much needed, specially modified mini bus.”

“With 400 students on site, having this bus will open up many more opportunities, including students being able to go on more leisure and educational visits, attend off-site work experience placements and getting to hospital and other medical appointments more easily and comfortably.”

Don’t forget to pre-sort your waste into recyclable types before leaving home to ensure you have a quick and easy visit to your local Recycling Centre.
