Award winning documentary ‘Waste Land’ screens at Southwark’s Recycling Facility

On Wednesday 7 September, Southwark’s Integrated Waste Management Facility will be screening ‘Waste Land’ a British-Brazillian documentary that chronicles award winning artist Vik Muniz when he travels to the world’s largest landfill. The screening is part of the Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festival taking place from 1 – 11 September.

The film introduces us to the men and women who sift through garbage for a living at Jardim Gramacho a landfill site in Rio de Janiro. Vik Muniz gets to know the workers and produces incredible portraits of them. The film has won numerous awards including Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Human Rights Film Award from Amnesty International and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Fabrice Bouchon General Manager at Veolia Southwark said, ‘We are proud to be partnering with Peckham and Nunhead film festival for the second year. ‘Waste Land’ is a thought-provoking, emotive and inspiring documentary which we hope visitors will enjoy. They will also get to visit our facility and learn about how our waste is actually a resource that can help us build a more sustainable future.’

The screening is free and will take place at 8pm at Veolia’s Education and Visitor Centre and refreshments will be provided. Places are limited and will be available on a first come first served basis.
