As part of Veolia’s contribution to cleaner air in the city, Veolia has swapped five of its fleet of pool vans for electric vehicles.
Veolia is continuing to explore ways of reducing Carbon Emissions as part of the social value and commitment to Birmingham City Council and the Birmingham Business Charter for Social Responsibility
The fleet of five vans will save a combined total of 10 tonnes of CO2e per annum and will instead be powered by the electricity from an Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) which treats the city’s non-recyclable household waste and turns it into green energy. Electric charging points have been installed at the Veolia site in Tyseley to charge the new vans directly from the ERF where the green energy is produced.
Treating non-recyclable waste in an ERF reduces the need for fossil fuels and is a much more sustainable way to produce energy and a step forward in Veolia’s net zero targets. Switching to electric vehicles is much more economical to operate and maintain and as such, requires less servicing leading to cost savings for the business.
