Castle Bromwich HRC to reopen

Following a period of closure related to nearby roadworks, the city’s Castle Bromwich Household Recycling Centre (HRC) will re-open on Thursday (June 18).

As at all of Birmingham’s other HRCs, visits can only be made by those who book a slot in advance via the web.

The same restrictions and rules that apply at the other sites also apply (cars only, one visit per vehicle per week and the vehicle used must be the one that is mentioned when completing the form).

The Castle Bromwich site, based at Tameside Drive (B35 7AG), will be operational as follows:

Monday to Friday: 8am-8pm

Saturdays and Sundays: 8am-4pm

Cllr John O’Shea, Cabinet Member for Street Scene and Parks, said: “The coronavirus pandemic means our HRCs are operating in a different way to normal as a result of the reduced capacity – but the booking system has been a great success so far, giving residents certainty around their visits to the sites.

“The re-opening of the Castle Bromwich HRC adds greater capacity to the system and will give more options and choice to those with waste to dispose of.

“But there is still high demand, so we would urge people to only book slots if it is absolutely essential, and we look forward to getting back to business as usual once the risk posed by COVID-19 reduces to a level that allows this.”

Mark Powell, General Manager at Veolia, said: “We are pleased to reopen our Castle Bromwich site from Thursday so that residents in Birmingham can access the city’s full network of five HRCs. To avoid disappointment, visitors will need to book a slot in advance and bring proof of residency (council tax bill or utility bill) AND photo ID as entry will be refused otherwise. Our staff are there to ensure visitors can recycle their waste safely and we ask for full co-operation from members of the public during these challenging times so we can keep both visitors and our teams safe.”
