Following the PM's announcement on 4 January, our five Household Recycling Centres remain open daily but we ask that residents think carefully about whether they need to visit the sites. Please remember that strict rules remain in place to safeguard the public and members of staff.

New booking slots are added daily. Entry will be refused without a booking slot

Remember to cancel your booking as soon as possible if you're no longer able to visit the HRC. It could help someone else book a slot

Next time you visit the household waste and recycling centre remember to:

Book a slot and bring along proof that you are a Birmingham resident, as you will be refused entry without it. The following will be accepted:

Driving License

Council Tax (hard copy or digital)

Utility Bill (hard copy or digital)

We are working hard to ensure Birmingham is kept as clean and safe as possible and have decided to reopen the city’s network of five household waste recycling centres.

To ensure the safety of the public and our staff, we are opening for essential use only.  This is for residents who have a problem with storing too much waste or have oils or other hazardous waste at home.  Please think carefully before you decide to visit the site.  Non-essential use puts yourself, other members of the public and our staff at risk from spreading the infection.

Same Day Booking System

Further improvements are being made to the online booking system used to access the city’s five Household Recycling Centres (HRCs).

With effect from Monday (December 21), the introduction of the same day booking system will enable residents to book available slots from a minimum of just two hours ahead of a visit on the same day. The earliest that slots can be booked is three days in advance.

Previously, the latest you could leave it to book a slot was two days before the visit.

In addition, households will be able to book more than one visit a week – but multiple bookings cannot be made at the same time.

For example, it is Monday and you are planning to visit the HRC on Wednesday and make a booking for that day. An additional booking cannot be made until the day after that booking has been attended on Wednesday. Once the booking has cleared the system on Wednesday, an additional booking can be made that same week from Thursday. It may be that a booking is made on Thursday to attend on the same day (subject to availability) which would be permissible.

All visits to Birmingham household recycling centres require a slot to be booked online ahead of visits.

All other guidelines in place as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic remain in place and are detailed in the Rules For Visiting Our Sites section below.

Please be assured we take our responsibility to your health and safety and that of our staff very seriously.  We will be cleaning handrails regularly and in addition, will be closing the site at certain times to allow for thorough cleaning.  Our operatives are following Government and industry guidance on personal hygiene.

Restrictions

Restrictions

Birmingham’s recycling centres cannot accept business or trade waste via the online booking system.  For example, waste from a builder or other tradesman carrying out work to a house they don't live in; waste from the landlord of a property, or someone offering to clear any rubbish from a house which isn’t their own.

The extra traffic and waste created by businesses illegally tipping waste at these sites add to site congestion and inconveniences local people seeking to dispose of legitimate household waste at a time of increased need.

Veolia operates all five Household Recycling Centres in Birmingham,  enabling residents to dispose of their household waste and recyclable items. The Household Recycling Centres take a wide range of items and they’re really useful for waste that can’t be recycled or disposed of via residential collection services or bring banks.

Please ensure that before you visit, you have separated your waste by material type. This will help us to recycle more of your waste, make your visit as speedy as possible and will avoid delays for yourself and others.
