##
Application Forms & Guidance Notes

### Water Main Requisitions (Section 41)

These are pipes that distribute water to a number of buildings in an area and are the responsibility of Veolia Water Projects. If you are constructing more than one property and these are not adjacent to an existing water main, it is likely that you will need to requisition a new water main prior to applying for water connections.

This section applies to Customers who are not intending to install the water mains themselves under the Self Lay procedure (detailed below - Section 51).

### How to apply:

Our standard application form and Guidance notes are available here as PDF file downloads (Please note, these documents are not applicable to Diversions).

### Water Connections (Section 45)

These are connections to water mains usually provided for individual buildings or properties and include a communication pipe and meter. The communication pipe is Veolia Water Project's responsibility and usually runs between the water main and the boundary of the street (as defined by the New Road and Streetworks Act 1999) in which the main is laid. The remainder of the Service Pipe (the supply pipe) is the Customer's responsibility.

This section applies to Customers who are not intending to undertake the connection work themselves under the Self Lay procedure (detailed below - Section 51).

Please note the following:

- All water connections to new or converted premises are metered in accordance with provisions in the Water Industry Act 1991.
- Veolia Water Projects can only provide connections to private pipework that complies with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (1999).

### Self-Lay (Section 51)

These are Veolia Water Project's standard procedures for the laying of new water mains and services by dedicated Self-Lay Organisations (SLO's), Contractors, Developers and their agents.

The National Code of practice for the Self-Laying of Water mains sets out the requirements from the initial application and proposal through to entering into a formal agreement and completion of the work on site, with subsequent adoption by the Water Company. The Code of Practice is designed to be read in conjunction with a Company Specific Addendum, Veolia Water Projects Company Specific Addendum is available on request.

The first step with any prospective Self-Lay project, is confirmation that the SLO / Contractor has the appropriate level of competence to carry out the work. The Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS) has been established by the Water Industry to effectively assess and monitor the performance of all SLO's and Contractors, hence, accreditation under this scheme is now the accepted method of assessment. This Scheme is operated by Lloyds Register EMEA.

To see a full list of accredited SLO's and Contractors, or apply for accreditation yourself, please visit the Lloyds Register website: http://www.lloydsregister.co.uk.

Close liaison, clear and timely communication between all parties is fundamental to successful progression and completion of the self lay process.

### Sewer Requisitions (Section 98)

If you are constructing more than one property and these are not adjacent to an existing sewer, it is likely that you will need to requisition a new sewer, unless you are able to construct the sewer under a Section 104 agreement. This applies to both foul and surface water drainage.

This section applies to Customers who are not intending to install the sewers themselves under a Section 104 agreement.

### Sewer Adoptions (Section 104)

New arrangements for the location of sewers and laterals offered for adoption under Section 104 of the Water Industry Act 1991 mean that Veolia Water Projects will expect such pipes to be laid in the public highway or other public areas with unrestricted access to facilitate ease of repair and maintenance.

Section 104 agreements will be considered only in relation to sewers and laterals laid to the new mandatory standards and the latest edition of sewers for adoption published by the Wrc.

A Section 104 agreement must be in place before a Section 106 connection agreement will be approved.

### Sewer Connections (Section 106)

Recent changes in legislation require that any new connection to the public sewerage system made under Section 106 of the Water Industry Act 1991 cannot be made until Section 104 agreements in place (see above). The new legislation requires that sewers offered for Section 104 adoption are constructed to mandatory standards.
