Don’t waste your garden waste

Make your final cut fantastic for the environment

As we move deeper into Autumn, Veolia Haringey is reminding all residents that when tending to their gardens for the last time this year to ensure they place all cuttings in their white hessian sacks for collection.

The white sacks are sturdy, waterproof and reusable. They are also completely free of charge.

Grass cuttings, hedge clippings, leaves, prunings, small branches and flowers can all be placed into the white sacks to be collected, however soil and rubble cannot be collected so these must be left out of the sacks. As an alternative, up to six untied black sacks can be used instead for each garden waste collection.

Paul Peters, Veolia’s Senior Contract Manager in Haringey, said: “We’re encouraging all residents with gardens to make use of the free white sacks for the free garden waste collection service. By using this service not only will you be preventing these valuable materials from being burnt instead of being turned into rich compost, but also you will be saving space in your general waste bin for any waste that cannot be recycled or composted.”

Cllr Peray Ahmet, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “We are committed to providing Haringey residents with a comprehensive range of solutions to cover all different types of waste that they generate. With this free service residents can have peace of mind that their garden waste is being properly collected and carefully treated. We hope that all residents with gardens will take advantage of this service.”

Residents wishing to receive a free white hessian sack for their garden waste should contact the Veolia Haringey Contact Centre: [email protected] or 020 8885 7700.
