Stamford Hill’s School Book Success

Veolia collects over a tonne of books from participating schools

Pupils from Stamford Hill Primary School in Berkeley Road N15 are celebrating winning Veolia’s Schools Book Donation competition.

Stamford Hill’s 230 pupils collected 895 books between them, on average an impressive 3.8 books per pupil.  The School has been awarded £500, with five pupils chosen by the School that have made a significant contribution to the competition each receiving a £10 Amazon voucher.

In second place was Highgate Junior School, who collected on average 2.8 books per pupil, which was still an excellent effort. They were awarded £250.

Veolia’s Communications, Education & Outreach Manager, Dan Lester, said: “It’s been a great effort by all the schools that took part and many congratulations to both Stamford Hill Primary and Highgate Junior Schools for their fantastic achievements. We firmly support the idea that no book should ever be sent to landfill, and with schemes such as this we can help make this become a realistic.”

Havin Arda, a Year 5 pupil at Stamford Hill Primary School, said: “I am very proud of how well we did. I am going to spend my prize voucher on a birthday present for my sister.”

Another Year 5 pupil, Malika Thompson, was also in a giving mood, saying: “I was very surprised and very happy that we won. I’m spending my voucher on a present for my brother’s 30th birthday.”
