Tree-sy does it!

Advice on how to properly dispose of your Christmas Tree

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…a guide to disposing my old Tree!

As the last of the tinsel gets taken down and we all get back to normality after another hectic festive season, it’s time to turn our attention to clearing away the Christmas clutter and ensuring the now bare Tree is disposed of carefully.

All residents of Haringey can benefit from either free collection or free disposal of their Christmas Tree.  If you receive a green garden waste collection, you can cut your tree into smaller pieces (maximum length 1 metre or 3 feet, and maximum trunk thickness of 10cm diameter) and put it out for collection. It is essential that your tree is cut into smaller pieces, otherwise it cannot be collected, and please note that pots, soil or decorations cannot be collected.

Alternatively, you can take them to designated sites in the following parks – please note this is only offered for four weeks after Christmas Day:

  • Albert Road Recreation Ground (Staff yard) - Bidwell Gardens, N11
  • Bruce Castle Park (Staff yard) - Lordship Lane, N17
  • Down Lane Recreation Ground (Staff yard) - Park View Road, N17
  • Downhills Park (Staff yard) - Downhills Park Road, N17
  • Finsbury Park (Staff yard) - Endymion Road, N4
  • The Gardens Community Garden - Doncaster Gardens, N4
  • Priory Park (Staff yard) - Barrington Road, N8
  • Woodside Park (Staff yard) - High Road, N22

The final option is to take your Tree to one of the borough’s two Reuse & Recycling Centres, at Park View Road, Tottenham or Western Road, Wood Green, which are both open until 4pm, seven days a week.

Cllr Ahmet, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “Everyone who lives in Haringey should take up the offer of free collection or free disposal of their Christmas Tree. It won’t cost you a penny and it will help keep our borough clean and green.”

Once collected, the Trees are processed locally at a composting facility in Edmonton, where it is turned into a type of compost that is used in a wide variety of community projects throughout the borough, as well as on agricultural land.
