Recycling Centre vacancies attract job seekers from across Leeds

More than 100 people joined Leeds City Council and Veolia Environmental Services yesterday to find out about jobs and business opportunities at the city’s soon-to-be-built recycling facility.

With construction due to start on the recycling and energy recovery facility (RERF) at the Cross Green Industrial Estate site in September, both organisations are keen that local people and businesses get involved.

Organisers were particularly impressed with the quality of local job seekers from across the city who visited the Richmond Hill Community Centre employment event to express their interest in construction, administration, cleaning and security vacancies.

Paul Fowler, General Manager for Veolia Leeds, said:
“It’s important that the new facility helps create opportunities to get local people into jobs and training.
“We were really encouraged to meet such a wide range of enthusiastic and motivated people who want to help us deliver this project and we’ll be working with Clugstons and Leeds City Council to ensure that we utilise the skills and talent that the local workforce has to offer.”
Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for leisure and skills, said:
“This is a really positive start to the recruitment process. We want to maximise every opportunity for local people and businesses to get involved and benefit from what will be a major construction project. It will be very rewarding to see some of the successful candidates and businesses who joined us on Monday working with us on site soon.”

Councillor Mark Dobson, Leeds City Council’s executive member for the environment, said:
“By employing local people and getting local businesses on board we can ensure the recycling facility is playing its part in the local community as well as making Leeds cleaner and greener.”
