Veolia proud as Lambeth parks declared among the very best in Britain

Eleven of Lambeth’s parks and green spaces will again be flying the Green Flag this year – and that’s official.

Archbishop’s Park, Brockwell Park, Hillside Gardens Park, Kennington Park, Milkwood Community Park, Myatt’s Fields Park, Ruskin Park, Streatham Rookery, St. John’s Churchyard, St. Paul’s Churchyard and Vauxhall Park, are all maintained on behalf of the Council by Veolia. They are among the 1,582 parks and green spaces which have been independently judged to deserve to retain and fly a prestigious Green Flag Award; the mark of a quality park or green space.

A final and unexpected piece of great news was that Brockwell Park was the Greater London Regional Winner for the ‘Bee’s Needs’ special award scheme, and which is awarded to sites that are being managed to benefit bees and other pollinators. Brockwell Park’s wonderful ‘Wildflower Slope’ next to the Brockwell Lido, plus the recent creation of over 1,000 square metres of native flower-rich hedgerows and meadow woodland, were key factors in the park winning this special award.

These awards recognise and reward the best parks and green spaces across the United Kingdom, and a Green Flag or Community Award flying overhead is a sign to the public that the site boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained, has excellent facilities and is serving its customer’s needs.

Councillor Jane Edbrooke, Lambeth Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “We are absolutely delighted to retain all of our eleven Green Flag Awards for the third successive year in a row. These awards recognise the fact that all of Lambeth’s customers are benefitting from access to and enjoyment of public greenspaces that are of the very highest quality.”

Robert Seear, Regional Manager, for Veolia, which manages the parks in Lambeth said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another fantastic year in Lambeth. Our grounds maintenance teams work extremely hard to deliver exceptional green spaces for Lambeth residents all year round and to receive the Green Flag Awards again for all 11 parks we manage, is something we are all very proud of.”
