We make sure it’s not wasted, by sending it to our South East London Combined Heat and Power Facility where its turned it into electricity and heat for local homes. This is currently the most sustainable solution for dealing with general waste.

Here are five facts about SELCHP
1. The site can process 440,000 tonnes of general waste per year.
2. To date, the facility has generated over 5 million MWh of electricity (enough to power over 1.5 million homes in a year!)
3. So far, it's diverted 10 million tonnes of waste away from landfill, where it was recovered instead.
4. In 2014, Veolia and Southwark Council won the 'Peer Award for Excellence' in the sustainability and environment category, for creating London's first energy from waste district heating network.
5. In 2019, SELCHP celebrated 25 years of being in operation!
