Sustainable facilities management for Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to control costs

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health services, specialist learning disability services, community and inpatient care for people with complex health needs. Services are provided from around 80 locations across East and West Sussex and Hampshire.

The challenge

To provide a targeted estates and facilities service for six patient care sites in Chichester, Midhurst and Bognor Regis in West Sussex.

The solution

The Trust identified the need for a provider with wide ranging NHS experience to deliver special estates services to six locations covering a wide range of buildings used for patient care.

The Veolia solution covers management and delivery of a range of hard and soft facilities services including engineering, maintenance, projects, waste management, laundry, gardening and pest control.

Utilities managed under the contract target consumption and budgeting and include gas, electricity and hot and cold water supplies.

A wide range of mechanical, electrical, energy, utility and estate services are provided to the sites by dedicated on-site
and specialist mobile teams co-ordinated via a 24-hour help-desk. Services are delivered by a dedicated team of around 70 that support services covering CCTV, lifts, emergency generation and electrical supplies, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), access control, lighting, medical furniture and medical gas supplies.

The team is also responsible for fire alarms, protection and monitoring and building services. The team also manage building projects for the Trust.

The various Trust buildings have extensive landscaped grounds designed to create a good patient care environment. Included in the on-site team are the specialist skills to ensure the building fabric and the grounds are maintained and to provide vermin control.

Value delivered

Since 2000, the Trust has benefited from a dedicated on-site team and specialist mobile teams that manage a complete range of facilities. This service has optimised the facilities and energy use and delivered value for money services to support the healthcare activities.
