Veolia staff hailed as heroes after coming to aid of injured man
A refuse crew have been labelled as heroes after coming to the aid of an injured man following a road traffic accident in Blofield Heath on Tuesday 6th December.
The accident happened at approx 9:30am when 19year old Luke Moorhouse was on his way to visit his grandparents. The motorcycle he was riding skidded on the road trapping him by his ankle underneath the bike. The collection crew who work for Veolia Environmental Services and provide refuse and recycling services for Broadland District council, witnessed the accident which involved no other vehicles. The crew called immediately for emergency services and directed traffic around the accident scene.
Luke’s mum, Mrs Moorhouse said “The refuse guys were fantastic, they took care of Luke, covering him with coats to keep him warm and kept him talking while waiting for medical assistance. I am so pleased they were there and able to help and I cannot thank them enough.”
Luke who plays Rugby for Broadland and is hoping to go into the Army sustained minor injuries and was allowed to go home after being treated by paramedics on the scene.
Cllr John Fisher portfolio holder for Environmental Excellence at Broadland said “We are immensely proud of the refuse crew for coming to the aid of this young man. The caring attitude shown by the crew demonstrates their commitment to the community by going above and beyond the call of duty.”
Lawrence Canfield, Veolia Environmental Services’ Regional Operations Manager said “We are proud to see our crews going that extra mile for the local community and we would all like to wish Luke a speedy recovery in time for Christmas.”
The crew have been nominated for a letter of commendation for their heroic actions and this will be presented by Broadland District council Chief Executive Phil Kirby and Chairman Cllr Claudette Bannock.
