Test boreholes planned

23 september 2011
Mobile rigs towed by Land Rovers are being used, and most of the test boreholes will be on farmland. However, three boreholes are also needed on land adjacent to Station Road in New Romney with work scheduled to be carried out on 4-5 October:

-In the playing field behind the New Romney Sports and Social Club (4 October);

-In the children's play area opposite the Marsh Academy (4 October);

-At the Marsh Academy on the grass verge alongside the driveway (5 October).

Veolia Water Southeast Capital Delivery Manager Justin Southwell said: "There will be some noise as the borehole drilling is undertaken and for safety reasons the individual work areas will need to be fenced off. For additional safety, the children's play area will need to be closed on 4 October. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and we will ensure that work is completed as soon as possible."

Some 9 kms of new strategic mains between St Mary's Bay and the Denge Water Treatment Works are to be built to ensure long term security of supply for the area. The strategic main will replace an older pipeline where the risk of bursts is thought to be high.

Construction of the strategic trunk main is due to begin in spring 2012 and will take two years to build, with commissioning in 2014.
