Veolia launches new contract in Brent

Additional services added to Veolia Brent contract

Now, over two decades on, a nine-year, £142.3 million Public Realm contract commencing today (Tuesday 1 April) heralds a new dawn in the partnership as the existing services provided by Veolia are being complemented by the addition of more services that will provide even better environmental solutions for the borough’s residents.

On top of the recycling, waste management, street cleansing and winter maintenance services already provided by Veolia, the new contract encompasses graffiti cleaning and fly-posting removal, a dedicated Communications, Education & Outreach team and the management of a new Commercial Waste portfolio, so local businesses will be able to benefit from Veolia’s comprehensive range of bespoke services and recycling solutions.
Also, from September, Veolia will take over responsibility of the grounds maintenance of parks, open spaces and Brent Housing Partnership land.

Technology and interactivity will play an integral role in the new contract, with Veolia now monitoring and maintaining the Report/Request forms that residents submit via the Brent Council website to report a fly-tip or missed collection, or to order new containers or request a special collection of bulky items.  There is also the imminent arrival of a Love Clean Streets app for residents, which will enable them to photograph and report to Veolia in real time waste-related issues, for example litter or a fly-tip, which will then be logged for action.

Andrew Reidy, Veolia’s General Manager for North London, said: “We are extremely proud of all our achievements in partnership with Brent Council over the past 22 years, but our goal now is to move on to another level in terms of the breadth and quality of services we provide, ensuring we are offering unrivalled value for the Council and residents.”

Cllr Roxanne Mashari, Lead Member for Environment & Neighbourhoods, said: “This is a contract that we can be proud of that will deliver excellent services for residents whilst achieving savings. This contract contains many more features than the previous one and puts community engagement, education and customer satisfaction at its heart.”
Cllr Jim Moher, Lead Member for Highways & Transportation, said: "Keeping Brent's streets spick and span and free from litter, dirt and refuse is the number one priority for our residents.

“This contract ensures that we are using the most high tech solutions with a dedicated and experienced contractor to deliver some of the cleanest streets in Britain at an excellent price to the taxpayer.
“Gone are the days when we measure how often streets are cleaned to a requirement that streets are visited and kept clean as often as is needed. We will measure Veolia on how clean a street is rather than whether they have swept on a given day or not. This will be a major transformation in the way the service works and residents will see a positive difference in how their streets look and feel.”
