Expanding our commercial expertise

Acquiring other businesses helps expand our expertise and broaden our reach.

Here, we look at three of our latest acquisitions, Grays Commercial Waste, Downings Recycling and Glazewing.

GRAYS COMMERCIAL WASTE

On Monday 21 May we acquired Grays Commercial Waste, which included waste transfer facilities at two depots in North Wales. This acquisition allows us to internalise previously sub-contracted National Accounts collections, and it also means our operational presence now stretches across all of North Wales.

This was a strategic acquisition ahead of a new energy from waste contract starting in Deeside, North Wales (just on the border with England) in mid-2019, which will facilitate more competitive treatment costs and pricing within this area in order to attract new customers but more importantly, retain our existing customers.

A total of 30 staff members have moved across from Grays to join our team.

DOWNINGS RECYCLING

On 18 June Veolia acquired Downings Recycling Ltd in Stafford. Having operated in local and surrounding areas for over 30 years, Downings is a well established and much-respected family business, providing a high-quality service to around 400 businesses.

The acquisition covers three collection rounds, providing paper, mixed recycling and general waste services. In addition, Downings also operates a small fleet of skip and roll-on, roll-off vehicles. Our Stoke Service Centre will now offer further value-added services to our new customers which will include food, cardboard and glass collection services.

GLAZEWING

The acquisition of Glazewing’s trade waste business completed on 2 July, which saw us take over the company’s site in Cambridgeshire. The acquisition will deliver operational efficiency improvements as service areas are consolidated.

With the acquisition, we welcome four members of the Glazewing service team and one account manager to Veolia. Their local experience will be invaluable moving forward.
