Christmas Tree Festivals help spread ‘Treecycle’ message

All Hallows Church Gedling, Christmas Tree Festival, St Mary and All Saints Church Bingham Christmas Tree Festival, St Mary Magdalene District Church Newark Christmas Tree Festival, and Worksop Christmas Tree Festival each received support from Veolia (Nottinghamshire County Council’s waste contractors) through a £200 EnviroGrant.

Christmas Tree Festivals offer a festive insight into churches and community spaces where the spaces are transformed into a wonderful spectacle of colour, light and celebrate the joy of Christmas. Everyone is invited to enjoy the sight of the Christmas Trees which have been decorated and displayed by local groups and organisations.

Kevin Parker, Regional Communications Manager for Veolia said: “Support from Christmas Tree Festivals is fantastic as many of the visitors will head home to decorate their real Christmas Tree, with support from the festivals we are able to encourage lots more of Nottinghamshire’s residents to ‘Treecycle’ their tree in January and help raise funds for a very worthwhile cause.”

St Mary Magdalene Church, Newark Christmas Tree Festival organiser Rita McCall said “Funding from Veolia has enabled us to publicise the event widely hoping that we can attract more visitors to this festive event. Success is not all about raising money; it is also about involving people and encouraging them to work together.”

When the festivities are over make sure your Christmas tree doesn’t end up in the bin, take it to any of Nottinghamshire’s 13 Recycling Centres to be recycled!

Treecycling is a great way to be both green and help a very worthy cause. For every 50 tonnes of Christmas trees and other green waste received at the Recycling Centres until the end of January, Veolia will donate £100 to the local charity The Ear Foundation.
