Veolia (Nottinghamshire County Council’s waste management contractor) operate the 13 Recycling Centres across Nottinghamshire which are open from 8am until 4pm until the end of February (changing to 6pm from the 1st March).
Wherever possible, the waste that householders take to a Recycling Centre will go on to be recycled. To make your visit to the Recycling Centre a speedy one it’s best to sort your waste items into different types, this makes putting it into the correct containers for recycling easy.
If you take your waste in bin liners the site staff will open them in order to separate the materials inside for reuse and recycling. This has helped Nottinghamshire Recycling Centres recycle more than 75% of the waste they handle. If you are concerned about your waste bags being opened, please dispose of this waste in your general waste wheeled bin at home and shred confidential where appropriate.
Lea Hawkes General Manager for Veolia said: “The Nottinghamshire Recycling Centres accept a wide range of household waste for recycling; including textiles, glass, garden waste, fluorescent tubes, cooking oil, and old electrical appliances.”
Calverton, Beeston, Warsop and Newark Recycling Centres also accept unwanted water-based, oil-based and masonry paint as well as undercoat and varnish. Any re-usable tins are then given away to voluntary groups and charities through our Community RePaint Nottinghamshire scheme and public free paint nights are held in the summer months. Further Information about the Nottinghamshire Community RePaint scheme can be found at: www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/communityrepaint
Nottinghamshire residents can take their bulky household waste to any of the Recycling Centres within the County. Site addresses and details about the range of materials each site accepts, can be found at: www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/living/waste/recycling-centres/
We would also like to remind Nottinghamshire residents that if they want to take waste in a van, pick-up, sign-written vehicle or trailer to one of the Recycling Centres, they need to apply for a permit. Further information and a downloadable application form is available at: www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/living/waste/hwrc/wastepermits/ or by calling 0300 500 80 80.
