The letter to Father Christmas is one of the best parts of Christmas and this year Veolia (Nottinghamshire County Council’s waste contractors) are wishing to hear from all ‘nice list’ recyclers in Nottinghamshire, and offering pantomime tickets in return for the best ‘recycling good deeds’ letter to Father Christmas.
The new festive competition seeks to hear from the county’s young recyclers, and the winner will be presented with their prize by the stars of Nottingham Playhouse’s glittering production Cinderella.
Over the festive period we all produce roughly 30% more waste than during the rest of the year, that’s a lot of pop bottles, chocolate boxes and squirty cream cans! Nottinghamshire residents currently recycle on average 44% of their waste, but with the help of our mini recyclers the challenge is to encourage everyone to recycle even more this Christmas and ‘put the right thing in the right bin’.
The letters don’t have to be long but they must be original and can feature any or all of the recyclable items in Nottinghamshire – cans, paper, cardboard, or plastic bottles and as much festive magic as wished. The letter template and competition terms and conditions can be picked up from schools, libraries, downloaded here or requested by calling 0203 567 4392. Entries are welcome from children aged 5 to 11 by post or email until the strike of midnight on Monday 11 December.
Lea Hawkes, General Manager for Veolia said: ‘Over the year we have welcomed hundreds of the County’s school children for recycling tours, and spoken to all the mini recyclers about the fantastic recycling that is taking place at home and at school. These good deeds can now be shared with Father Christmas in our new festive competition.’
Stephanie Sirr, Chief Executive at Nottingham Playhouse said: ‘We are proud to support the recycling good deed Christmas letters by Nottinghamshire’s littlest recyclers. Wonderful things can happen when you reuse and recycle, just take Cinderella’s pumpkin; in our magical pantomime we turn this into a beautiful carriage!’
Cinderella is written and directed by Kenneth Alan Taylor and runs at Nottingham Playhouse from Friday 1 December 2017 to Saturday 20 January 2018. www.nottinghamplayhouse.co.uk
County Councillor John Cottee, Chairman, Communities and Place Committee from Nottinghamshire County Council said: “This festive competition is a great way to highlight all the different ways we can recycle as we get closer to the Christmas festivities – as well as finding Nottinghamshire’s best young recycler!”
