The Sea Lion Swimming Club, which meets weekly at Watford Central Leisure Centre, is open to people of any age with a temporary or permanent disability. The volunteer-led group encourages people to enjoy the water and the freedom it offers.
Helper Vanessa Mackay said: "We have recently extended our activities to include dryside sports for those unable to swim for the full session. We also arrange activity days and a residential summer camp for members, which is what we will use the Veolia Water donation for."
Veolia Water Central Managing Director, Richard Bienfait, said: "Veolia Water is delighted to support local groups through our Community Investment Fund. We increased the fund from £30,000 in 2010 to £50,000 this year as we had so many worthy applications.
"Veolia Water cares for its local community and we hope the Community Investment Fund will make a difference to the groups that have been selected this year," he added.
A committee of Veolia Water staff - many of whom live locally - allocated the money and will be visiting some of the successful projects to see for themselves how the money will benefit the organisations.
Three other local groups have benefitted from the Veolia Water fund. They are: Shopmobility Watford which received £1,550; South Herts Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association which received £1,000 and GirlAbout, a child welfare and education group based in Watford, which received £1,250.
