Twitter helps to re-unite man with wedding ring

Resident Martin Wright from Shrewsbury recycled more than he bargained for last Sunday.

Keen recycler Martin from Shrewsbury, took his cardboard to the local bring site at Morrisons and as he tipped his cereal packets and food packaging, his wedding ring slipped off into the large sealed container.

Being a Sunday, the call centre helpline was closed so Martin decided to tweet about his loss.  The tweet was picked up by Veolia Environmental Services, the waste contractors for Shropshire Council, who managed to cancel the early morning collection the next day.

Mark Hunter, Operations Manager for Veolia Environmental Services Shropshire said: “The bin was due to be collected early on Monday morning but because of the tweet we managed to stop the bin being emptied. Without that, the ring and contents of the cardboard bin would have been sent off for recycling”

First thing on Monday, Veolia employees had to climb inside the bin and look through each piece of cardboard and eventually found the ring inside a tea bag box.

Martin Wright, who has only been married for 18 months said: “I am extremely grateful to the team at Veolia for answering my tweet on a Sunday and finding my wedding ring.”
