Despite the recent heavy rainfall, groundwater levels in the underground chalk aquifers, from which Veolia Water takes most of its water, remain very low following two successive autumn and winters of very low rainfall.
The garden - designed by Vicky Harris Garden Design and built by Cube 1994 - aims to demonstrate that it is possible to have a beautiful garden, even during times of drought, by choosing plants that need little water and making good use of rainwater.
Richard Bienfait, Managing Director of Veolia Water Central said: "We are delighted to have a drought resistant garden at this year's Chelsea Flower Show which has been created to inspire gardeners to make use of water efficient plants to ensure beautiful gardens can be achieved and sustained during times of drought. All the plants in our garden are available from most garden centres, enabling gardeners to create their own drought tolerant gardens and save water."
The plants in the garden have been supplied by the on-line garden nursery Crocus. Visitors to the Veolia Water'Naturally Dry' garden during the Show will be able to receive 10% off all purchases of drought tolerant plants purchased through Crocus - including plants they see in the garden - when they pick up our leaflet at the Show.
The RHS Chelsea Flower show runs from 22 May to 26 May at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, London SW3.
