Coming soon to a home near you – important information about garden waste collections

New garden waste information leaflets are appearing at homes across the city. Residents can expect to find a reminder of this year’s final green bin or green sack collections through their letter boxes before the end of October. Any residents who have not received an update leaflet by Monday October 31 should call: 0114 273 4567 or email: [email protected]

The green bin and green sack collection services are for items of garden waste, such as: leaves, hedge and plant clippings, twigs, small branches, prunings, grass mowings, weeds and cut flowers.  The leaflets give handy hints on how to use the services and also a helpful reminder of final collections before the start of Winter.  Information about garden waste collection services for next year will be provided to residents in 2012.

If residents have more garden waste to get rid of after their final collection, it can be taken to any of Sheffield’s five Household Waste Recycling Centres found in Beighton, Deepcar, High Green, Shirecliffe and on Blackstock Road.  The sites are open 9am to 6pm all year round.

Home composting is an environmentally friendly and low-cost way of recycling your garden waste.  Sheffield City Council and Veolia Environmental Services have teamed up with Evengreener.com to offer residents a range of low cost compost bins and other accessories.  Please visit: www.getcomposting.com or call Evengreener on: 0844 571 4444 for more details.

Compost bins are also available for residents to buy locally from charity Heeley City Farm.  Residents with transport can now visit the Farm and purchase bins from as little as £12 (while stocks last).  Heeley City Farm will also deliver within Sheffield for a small charge dependent on location.
