Disruption to waste and recycling collections on Wednesday 5th October

Tomorrow the GMB Union members at Veolia Sheffield are striking for one day; and this will impact on bin and box collections for Sheffield residents with a Wednesday collection day.
Veolia are working hard to minimise any disruption to residents in the City. We will be working with a reduced number of collection crews, and may take more time than usual to collect resident’s containers. We ask residents to put their bins and boxes out before 7am, and if they are not emptied, to leave them out so we can make sure all waste and recycling is collected
Veolia will be making every attempt to empty all black bins as normal tomorrow, and will empty as many blue bins and boxes as possible. No green garden waste will be collected tomorrow. If any of your bins or boxes has not been emptied tomorrow, please leave them out for collection, as we will be deploying extra crews during Thursday, Friday and Saturday to empty your containers.
Cllr Bryan Lodge, Cabinet Member for Environment at SCC, said: “Bin collection crews are due to take strike action on Wednesday due to a pay dispute with their employer Veolia.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and we are working closely with Veolia so that this dispute can be brought to a satisfactory conclusion as quickly as possible.
“There will be disruption to the service tomorrow, but we ask residents to still place their bins and boxes out for collection as normal, as extra collection crews will be working to empty those missed due to the strike action.”
Collections from Thursday 6th October onwards should not be affected by this industrial action.
All Household Waste Recycling Centres will be unaffected by the industrial action and will remain open as normal from 10am to 4pm.
Further updates about collections will be available on our website at www.veolia.co.uk/sheffield
and via Twitter @Recycle4Shef.
The Veolia Call Centre is open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday on 0114 273 4567.
