Gill grabs the jackpot as Veolia ‘goes green’!

To celebrate the launch of the Veolia Environmental Services ‘Green Office’ scheme, the Sheffield depot held a staff competition for ideas to make the Sheffield sites more environmentally friendly. Green Office is a new scheme which aims to reduce Veolia’s energy consumption and carbon footprint across the UK.

Gill Sylvester, call centre agent for Veolia claimed first prize of £50 B&Q vouchers with her idea of introducing a ‘V-cycle’ scheme across the sites.  Gill comments: “V-cycling is a free way to recycle and involves staff advertising unwanted things to give away to those who may need them, instead of just throwing them away.  It is great to see my idea implemented and a V-cycle board has now been introduced for staff to give unwanted items a new home.”
The V-cycle scheme is the latest in a range of ideas being introduced as part of the Green Office scheme.  The new office built on Lumley Street has washable beakers to replace disposable cups, improved recycling facilities, energy saving motion sensor lighting and a water saving rainwater harvesting system in place which filters and stores rainwater to flush the toilets.
Nigel Williams, managing director of Veolia Environmental Services in Sheffield who judged the competition comments: “It is important as an environmental company that we take the lead and we can really make a difference by making subtle changes to our lifestyles.  I am delighted to see the new Green Office scheme being introduced across our sites in Sheffield and I would like to thank everyone for being very open to the changes.  Congratulations to Gill for her winning idea and let’s hope our V-cycle scheme will be a huge success!”
