“Let it grow” during Compost Awareness Week!

Sheffield City Council and Veolia Environmental Services are going ‘Compost Crazy’ to celebrate the eleventh annual Compost Awareness Week – a national week aimed to encourage people to compost their garden and food waste at home. Veolia’s composting experts will be holding a series of events, including ‘Compost Surgeries’ and a special one day compost bin sale at Anns Grove Primary School.

Compost Surgeries

Compost Surgeries are 10am – 3pm and will give residents the chance to find out more about the benefits of home composting, whilst entering into a free prize draw to win their very own compost bin:

·        Wednesday 4th May: Sainsbury’s, Archer Road
·         Friday 6th May: Asda, Handsworth
·         Friday 6th May: Fargate, City Centre

 Compost Bin Sale

After the success of last years sale, Sheffield City Council and Veolia are delighted to announce this year’s compost bin sale in partnership with local charity, Heeley City Farm on Saturday 7th May.

Compost bins are available to Sheffield residents for the bargain price of just £12 (RRP £39) and for the first time ever, water butts (including a starter kit) will also be available at a knock-down price of £21 (RRP £69).  45 litre bags of locally produced compost will be on offer at £3 or 4 bags for £10.

The charity, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, receives a contribution from every bin, butt or bag sold to help them carry on their work within the Sheffield community.  As a special thank you from Heeley City Farm, they will be giving away a 10% off voucher for the farms garden centre and café to all residents who spend £10 or over during the sale.

The one day sale will be held in the car park at Anns Grove Primary School, Anns Road (across from Heeley City Farm) 10am - 4pm.  The sale items will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
