In Sheffield there are 6 different materials that we collect from blue bins and boxes: paper, cardboard, glass jars & bottles, tins, cans and plastic bottles. We’re all pretty good at recycling our newspapers, cereal boxes, wine bottles and pop bottles, but what do you do with your empty shampoo and sun cream bottles or the card sleeve on some yogurt pots?
Did you know that you can put glass jars such as empty face cream pots in your blue bin/box? And glass perfume and aftershave bottles can be recycled through your blue bin/box collection too. There are many other unusual items that you may not have realised we can recycle, like bubble bath and mouthwash bottles, marmite jars, small tins like the ones you find dried yeast or tomato puree in, and junk mail and fliers.
So make sure you’re recycling all your ‘unusual suspects’.
