Sheffield’s waste and recycling collectors clean up at award ceremony with The Lord Mayor

Sheffield’s waste and recycling collection crews were recently recognised for excellence in their jobs at an award ceremony at Sheffield’s Town Hall. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor John Campbell presented awards to the crews that came out on top of Veolia’s Environmental Services supervisor and crew improvement and development programme.

Veolia challenged their crews to deliver excellence in their roles, with monitoring taking place in a number of areas to ensure that the quality of their work gave excellent customer service.

Alan Clarke, Richard Travis and Dylan Sellars received an award for the most improved crew whist Anita Fieldsend won an award for the most improved supervisor. Manager’s choice awards went to the crew of Simon Brooke, Antony Briggs, Chris Simpson and supervisor Louisa Schofield.

Alan Clarke, Richard Travis and Dylan Sellars received a special mention for their continuing commitment to the service. On the day they received their award, the trio gritted an icy road, by hand, to ensure that they could get their refuse lorry up a road in order to collect bins from a care home.

Martyn Pashley, Operations Manager at Veolia Environmental Services said, “We have seen a significant improvement amongst all refuse crews since the programme was introduced in June. The programme has proved very popular with employees and is something that we would like to continue on a permanent basis. A massive congratulations to the winning crews.”

The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor John Campbell said, “It was a pleasure to meet the winning crews and supervisors. They should be proud to have been recognised for showing such commitment to delivering quality services to the resdients of Sheffield.”
