Temporary changes to Household Waste Recycling Centre opening times during the Tour de France

Veolia and Sheffield City Council are making temporary changes to the opening hours of some Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) on Sunday July 6 only during the Stage 2 Tour de France event which is set to sweep through Sheffield.

Longley Avenue West and Manchester Road HWRCs will be closed all day on the Le Tour Event day (Sunday 6th July) due to restricted access and road closures in those areas. Instead, Manchester Road HWRC will open for an extra day on Tuesday 8th July and Blackstock Road HWRC will open for an extra day on Wednesday 9th July.

Councillor Jack Scott, Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Streetscene said, “We’re thrilled that the world’s largest single sporting event will be passing through Sheffield. This is a once in a generation chance to showcase our beautiful and unique city to the world. We've worked hard to minimise disruption to our recycling services. After looking at the road closures on Sunday 6th July, we've decided to close two of our five Centres in order to minimise traffic in the area. We're going to offer additional alternative opening days so that Sheffield residents can enjoy the event on the day and still have the opportunity to recycle following the big race.”

If people do wish to recycle on Sunday 6th July, Beighton Road, Greaves Lane and Blackstock Road HWRCs will be open as normal from 10am - 6pm.
