Veolia ‘bakes’ money for charity fundraiser!

Staff at Veolia Environmental Services showed off their culinary expertise in a charity ‘bake-off’ this week, to raise money for the Sick Children’s Trust (SCT). Staff produced sweet and savoury treats which were judged by managing director, Nigel Williams with Angela Priestley pronounced the winner for her scrumptious carrot cake.

With staff able to buy the remaining goodies, the ‘bake off’ raised over £75 for SCT.  Staff also donated ‘Wish List’ items, including a microwave, salt and pepper pots, cutlery, kitchen bins, tea towels, kitchen foil and washing-up brushes to Treetop House at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Treetop House is a home-from-home managed by SCT for families of children being treated in the hospital where they can stay during their time of need.  The House, located on the top floor of the hospital, is equipped with its own kitchen, lounge and children’s play area as well as the many bedrooms and bathrooms which are available to the families staying.
Ann Wyatt, house manager at the Treetop House, said: “Our funding often doesn’t cover many of the basic, everyday items that most of us take for granted in our homes.  We’re very grateful for all of Veolia’s help.  The donated items and money will be treasured and help us on our quest to provide the highest possible level of care and comfort for the families staying with us.”
Nigel Williams, managing director for Veolia Environmental Services in Sheffield commented: “Angela’s carrot cake was delicious and won hands down - certainly a recipe for success!  It is great to see staff getting involved in a bit of friendly competition and donating to a local charity at the same time.”
Winner, Angela Priestley, administrator at Veolia also comments: “I can’t believe I won, it’s fantastic!  My carrot cake is always a winner at dinner parties so I am really pleased that it also went down well with my colleagues – literally!”
