Your festive guide to waste and recycling in Sheffield

Find out about your Christmas refuse and recycling collection services and how you can recycle your REAL Christmas tree.

Your black bin collections

If your black bin collection day is on a:

  • Monday – There will be no collection on Monday 26 December 2011.  The Monday service returns to normal on Monday 2 January 2012
  • Tuesday – There will be no collection on Tuesday 27 December 2011.  The Tuesday service returns to normal on Tuesday 3 January 2012
  • Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – 28/29/30 December, there will be no change to your collections, please put your black bin out as normal for emptying

Over the festive period we will continue to operate a ‘bin lid down’ policy for the black bin, with small amounts of extra waste taken as long as it is bagged and placed next to your black bin on your collection day.  For safety, we ask that residents make sure any broken glass is wrapped and put in the bin and not in the bagged waste.

Your blue bin and blue box collections

If your blue bin and blue box collection day is on a:

  • Monday – There will be no collection on Monday 26 December 2011, instead your blue bin and box will be emptied on Saturday 24 December 2011
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – 27 – 30 December, there will be no change to your collections, please put your blue bin and blue box out as normal for emptying

Over the festive period we will continue to operate a ‘bin lid down’ policy for the blue bin and small amounts of extra paper and card will be taken as long as it is tied with string and placed next to your blue bin and blue box on your collection day.

We encourage you to recycle over the festive period and make use of the local recycling sites across the city and the five Household Waste Recycling Centres.  The Household Waste Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

REAL Christmas Trees

How to ‘treecycle’ this Christmas:

  • Call-up collection service – You can arrange a collection of your REAL Christmas Tree from home by contacting us on: 0114 273 4567, emailing: sheffieldenquiries@veolia.co.uk or filling in this form before 12 January 2011.
  • Household Waste Recycling Centres – REAL Christmas Trees can be taken to any of the five Household Waste Recycling Centres found in Beighton, Deepcar, High Green, Shirecliffe and on Blackstock Road.
  • Community collection points – There are five community collection points for REAL Christmas Trees:
  • Stannington Library car park (collection on 18 January)
  • Devonshire Green, Fitzwilliam Street (collection on 18 January)
  • Frechville Community Centre, Churchdale Road (collection on 18 January)
  • Wybourn Community Primary School (collection on 18 January) 
  • Real trees can be dropped off at the above collection points from 10 January 2012 onwards.  On 18 January 2012, the real trees will be collected before 12.00 noon.  Please do not bring your real tree/s to the sites any later than 12.00 noon as they will not be collected for recycling.
  • St Lukes Church, Blackbrook Road, S10 4LQ (collection on 21 January)
  • Real trees can be dropped off at St Lukes Church on 21 January 2012 only.  On 21 January 2012, the real trees will be collected before12.00 noon.  Please do not bring your real tree/s to the site any later than 12.00 noon as they will not be collected for recycling.
  • Community chipping points – There is one community chipping point for REAL Christmas Trees where residents can donate their trees to a good cause:
  • Heeley City Farm, Richards Road – trees can be dropped off from 10 January 2012
