Shropshire - Kerbside Collections

All you need to know about kerbside collections in Shropshire

If we’re unable to collect your waste or recycling due to severe bad weather, please:

  • Leave your refuse bin out. If we can't get to you on your scheduled collection day we’ll come back and collect it as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Take your garden waste bin back in, and put it out on your next scheduled garden waste collection day.
  • Leave your recycling boxes and blue sacks out (as long as they don’t present a trip hazard). We’ll collect them as soon as it is safe to do so.

Each household in Shropshire receives a calendar detailing the dates that their compostable waste and recycling and their residual waste will be collected. The calendars are delivered during July each year.

Residents in most parts of Shropshire have their recyclable waste and their residual waste collected on alternate weeks. One week we will collect your compostable waste (garden waste) together with your recycling boxes - glass, cans and plastic bottles and food trays (not black).  Paper & cardboard can be added to your blue bag.

You can leave household batteries out on recycling day too.  Please put them in a clear plastic bag and leave them where the crews can easily see them. In North Shropshire, South Shropshire and Shrewsbury you can also add food waste to your garden waste bin.  The following week we will collect the rest of your household waste (the residual waste). It is important to recycle as much as possible.

If you need more information about your collection, telephone the Customer Service Centre on 0345 678 9007.

You can now mix your plastics, cans and glass in one recycling box (or as many as you need).  There is no need to separate these materials as you did previously.

Alternate Week Collections

Residents in most parts of Shropshire have their recyclable waste and their residual waste collected on alternate weeks. One week we will collect your compostable waste (garden waste) together with your recycling boxes (paper, glass and cans, plastic bottles and food trays (not black). In North Shropshire, South Shropshire and Shrewsbury you can add food waste to your garden waste bin. The following week we will collect the rest of your household waste (the residual waste). This waste ends up in landfill so it is important to recycle as much as possible.

Assisted Collections

If you have difficulty leaving your waste by the kerbside you can apply for an assisted collection. Please telephone the Customer Service Centre on 0345 678 9007.

Have We Missed Your Collection?

If we haven’t collected your waste containers on the designated day, you can call the Customer Service Centre on 0345 678 9007. Before calling, please check your calendar in case there is a planned changed. Also note that the time of your collection may not always be the same, depending on traffic. When you call the Customer Service Centre they will need your name, postcode and the type of waste that hasn’t been collected (eg. Garden waste, residual waste, cans and glass etc). If your bin hasn't been emptied, please report this within two working days.

Bulky Waste Collections

Some larger items of waste can be collected by arrangement. There is a small charge for this service. Veolia are working in partnership with a charity called SHOFUR (Network of Shropshire Furniture Schemes) to collect bulky waste in most areas. By teaming up with SHOFUR, bulky waste such as furniture or white goods can be re-used for people in need. If you have items of this nature, please ensure they are kept dry until collection. Please contact the Customer Service Centre to arrange for your item to be collected on 0345 678 9007 or view the South Shropshire Furniture Scheme web site.
