Brighton and East Sussex residents invited to see how energy is recovered from waste at Veolia South Downs open day

To mark National Recycle Week next week (25 September to 1 October), residents across East Sussex and Brighton & Hove are being invited to come and see ‘what goes around comes around’ at Hollingdean Materials Recovery Facility’s Annual ‘Wonder’ Open Day.

Residents will get the chance to find out what happens to all their waste and recycling at the open day, perfect for anyone who has ever ‘wondered’ about what happens after their bins are collected.

National Recycle Week - the annual week-long campaign is being supported by Veolia and aims to raise awareness of all those items that often get forgotten about when recycling at home such as spray cans, shampoo bottles and dishwasher tablet boxes can also be recycled.

Allan Key, General Manager for Veolia, said:

“Most people now recycle and are good at it but some items can easily be missed - things like empty perfume bottles or deodorant cans, bathroom sprays or shampoo bottles are often left out.  We are encouraging residents to come and see us and how your recycling is sorted during National Recycle Week and by doing so will hopefully remember to recycle at home.”
