Gritting

The gritting team is active from November to February to gritt main roads when the temperatures drop below freezing.

They work at night so that everyone is safe in the morning and their work can sometimes go unnoticed.


Every night when the road surface temperatures drop down below freezing, Veolia gritting teams in Southend are working hard to make sure we are safe in the morning. They start working around 7pm in the evening for four to five hours, spreading salt on the main roads. A quad covers areas that are trickier to reach but important to cover like the surroundings of the hospital. Southend City Council have created short videos to promote the great work they are doing:
