Staffordshire Community Groups awarded grants to help to make their local area a better place to live

Over £10,000 presented to Staffordshire community groups at EnviroGrant Awards ceremony

As part of the partnership, Staffordshire County Council have with Veolia, who operate the state-of-the-art Energy Recovery Facility at Four Ashes, local community groups are benefiting from an extra helping hand.

Veolia’s commitment, as part of the contract with the Council, is to encourage local residents to get involved in local projects that make Staffordshire a more sustainable county.

This is the second year that the EnviroGrant scheme has taken place - and it's proving to be very popular with more than 80 groups entering this year's awards.

The presentation of cheques took place at The Oak Room, County Buildings, Stafford where 16 local groups received funding.

Steve Mitchell – Veolia Director – Midlands West said “Veolia operate a number of EnviroGrant Schemes in the Midlands and this is the second year the scheme has run in Staffordshire.  More than 80 applications were received and the awards that have been presented today are going to make a real difference to the groups that are receiving them.  Some very hard decisions have had to be made to bring us to this afternoon and each award is well deserved for the work that each group does to make the county more sustainable and a better place to live.”

Councillor Gill Heath, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Communities said: “The response to the EnviroGrant scheme this year has been fantastic. While it is always a difficult choice to select the successful bids, we are pleased to see this funding go to some worthy community projects. We look forward to seeing these varied initiatives get off the ground and make a difference to people in Staffordshire.”
