Changes to bin days over Christmas and New Year

It’s estimated that an extra 3 million tonnes of waste is produced over the Christmas period, that’s 30% more than the rest of the year.
Due to the Bank Holidays there will be changes to the days that waste and recycling containers will be collected. Waste contractor Veolia, working alongside Telford & Wrekin Council, will be delivering a leaflet which highlights the changes. This will make sure that householders know when their waste is being collected over the festive season.
Ruth Jones, Communications Officer for Veolia, said, “Properties will be given a useful leaflet to remind people of the changes and give some festive recycling tips. The leaflet will be placed under the lid of the purple top wheelie bins over the next two weeks, so please look out for it.”
Over the festive season, some bin days will be earlier than usual and some will be later than usual. Collections due on Monday 26 December will be take place on Saturday 24 December; all other collections will be a day later. Collection of green bins will not be suspended.
Ruth Jones continued, “People can also check their collection calendar or visit The borough’s two Household Recycling Centres, Hortonwood 50 TF1 7AA and Halesfield 1 TF7 4LN will be open 9am-5pm everyday apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.”
