Two charities have benefited to the tune of £7,500, thanks to residents across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin recycling their real Christmas trees.
Veolia, the recycling and waste partner for both authorities, is donating £5,000 to Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and £2,500 to Stay, a Telford and Wrekin charity, which provides housing and support services for vulnerable and homeless people in the borough.
Thousands of real Christmas trees were recycled across the county, either at the kerbside or through Household Recycling Centres.
The trees are turned into compost at Veolia’s specialist facility just outside Shifnal.
Steve Mitchell, Veolia Director (West) said: “Residents have once again really bought into Treecycling. Our kerbside green waste collection crews have been very busy and we also saw high numbers of trees being taken into our Household Recycling Centres.
“We are delighted that this has meant that Veolia is able to donate this money to two great charities which make a real difference to people in both Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
Pam Hodgetts, Corporate Partnership Manager for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “Veolia’s Treecycling scheme was a great success. Not only did those who supported the scheme responsibly dispose of their tree, but they can be proud of the fact they have helped fund two air ambulance missions in their local area. Thanks also go to Veolia for choosing to donate to our lifesaving service, we are truly grateful.”

Veolia, the UK’s leading resource management company, provides kerbside recycling and waste collection services in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin as well as running seven Household Recycling Centres across the county.
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity covers six counties, including Shropshire and has an airbase at RAF Cosford. It provides critical advanced pre-hospital emergency care through specially trained medics.
