Bournville Village Trust received funding for the Little Potted Garden project, an intergenerational project with a school and retirement home in Lightmoor Village, Telford.

The Veolia £15k EnviroGrant scheme is now accepting applications

Community groups across Telford and Wrekin are being encouraged to apply for grants of up to £1,000.

EnviroGrant is an ever-popular community grant scheme run by Veolia, the UK’s leading resource management company, as part of its waste contract with Telford & Wrekin Council. The grant scheme has been running since 2014 when Veolia took over the recycling and waste contract for the borough.

Since its launch, more than £130,000 has been awarded through EnviroGrant to more than 175 projects. Previous successful projects include community gardens, volunteer training and resources for support groups.

The funding is available for projects that benefit the local community or help to enhance the environment. Grants totalling up to £15,000 will be handed out in the next round of funding.  Community groups have until 31 October to submit their applications.

In the last funding round Bournville Village Trust received an EnviroGrant for the Little Potted Garden project, Michelle Froggatt, Community Development & Partnerships Officer, said: “Gaining the funding from Veolia has been so beneficial to everyone involved and hopefully to the wider community.  The Garden Gang (as they have become to be known) consisting of residents and staff of Bournville House, BVT staff along with pupils and teachers of Lightmoor Village Primary School who have been busy preparing hanging baskets for the village square, a vegetable patch at Bournville House Retirement Living and herb garden planters out in the village with more still to fill.  They are currently discussing what bulbs to plant around the village in September for spring.”

Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for neighbourhood, commercial services and regeneration, said: “EnviroGrant is a fantastic example of how we work with our partners to create a better borough. Through the added value element of the contract, Veolia supports the local community to the tune of £25,000 each year, through EnviroGrant and other initiatives.”

Steve Mitchell, Regional Director for Veolia said: “Supporting the local community is a key part of our work in the borough and we are incredibly proud to have supported more than 175 projects since 2014. We are now taking applications for our next round of funding and encourage groups to apply. If you’re a community group with a project in mind that will enrich the environment or benefit the community - please consider applying for an EnviroGrant.”
