Funding available for sports and community projects

Community groups can apply for up to £1000 for projects that benefit the community or the environment. Sports groups can apply for up to £500 to be used to provide long-term benefit to the club and opportunities for the wider community.
The scheme has already awarded over £34,300 since it began and is set to offer further funds throughout  2017. Both the Sports Grant and EnviroGrant funding are  part of the  added value initiative which was secured by Telford & Wrekin Council through the Waste Service Contracts  with Veolia. Over 40 groups have benefitted from the funding including The Gorge Craft Group quilts for premature babies project, and Friends of Apley Woods forgotten triangle project.
Julie Burroughs of Friends of Apley Woods, said, “I would urge any groups in Telford and Wrekin to apply for this grant. It is the simplest of application forms to complete and the grant can really make a big difference to the scale and success of a project. The funding enabled us to bring together local businesses, schools and the community to build a safer, more wildlife-friendly habitat, whilst raising awareness of environmental issues at the same time."
Ruth Jones, Communications Officer for Veolia, said, “We are keen to encourage groups to apply as soon as possible - the deadline for entries is Friday 27th January 2017. The application form is purposefully straightforward because we want it to be accessible to even small groups.
“It is a pleasure for us to work on this added value plan with Telford & Wrekin Council who are striving to make Telford an even better place to live.”
