The funding has been awarded to each club by Veolia as part of the Telford & Wrekin Council Waste Contract Initiatives and Added Value Plan. Veolia, the recycling contractor for Telford and Wrekin held an award ceremony for local community groups that are benefiting from an extra helping hand. From family pizza garden projects to restoring land marks, funds were granted to help ensure these amazing projects can continue.
This is the second year that Veolia and Telford & Wrekin Council have run the EnviroGrants with great success. Veolia’s commitment, as part of the contract is to encourage local residents to recycle more and to work with groups in helping them achieve projects that will benefit the area.
The presentation evening took place at Park Lane Centre in Woodside where more than 40 guests attended. One of the grant beneficiaries, Cliff Hallam of the Shropshire Wildlife Trust spoke of the difference the funds have made to his organisation.
Cliff Hallam said “I’m delighted that Veolia has chosen to support Telford’s Green Gym through an EnviroGrant. Green Gym has helped thousands of people find a route back to feeling healthier and happier, whilst improving community green spaces around Telford at the same time. This grant will help us promote the Green Gym to new volunteers, so that they can get stuck in and feel the benefits too.”
Sarah Maythorne, Community Liaison Officer for Veolia Telford and Wrekin said “It is an absolute pleasure to support such fantastic projects happening on our doorstep. There is so much that goes on to constantly make our borough an even better place to live.
“We have had the opportunity tonight to meet some inspiring individuals and help them to realise their dreams.”
Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Business, Neighbourhood and Customer Services, said: “I am delighted that local organisations have benefited from this value added fund, which came about as a direct result of the council’s own procurement.
“We have worked closely with our recycling contractor Veolia on a number of initiatives like this one to maximise the benefits of our partnership for the local community.”
