Recycling continues to rise in the borough

The recently published national League tables for Local Authority recycling performance show Telford and Wrekin is continuing to climb up the league table with a significant increase in recycling performance last year.
In 2013/14 Telford &Wrekin Council was 141 in the league, moving up to 116 in 2014/15, overtaking 25 other local authorities
This rise in the rate of recycling can in part be attributed to the introduction of the purple top bin which was introduced in April 2014. The purple top bin is for glass, cans and plastic.
The purple top bin replaced the previous small red box and orange net, reducing the requirement to separate waste and therefore making the option of recycling more attractive to local residents. A  blue bag is also used to collect  paper and card.
The added benefit of the purple top bin being much larger also means that it is now easier to recycle larger quantities of waste. Since the introduction o f the new system an additional 7,050 tonnes of recycling materials has been collected from residents.
