Olivia Wins a Clean Sweep and Jubilee Party for Barton Stacey

popular park in the village of Barton Stacey near Andover has won a ‘clean up’ after being nominated by 10-year old Olivia Harrison after being picked as the Southern winner of the Veolia Environmental Services Clean Sweep for Britain competition in association with The People.

Olivia told recycling and waste management company Veolia that, because the park was so popular it gets worn out, so a lick of paint and replanting grass would make it brighter and better. Olivia, her school friends and the villagers have already raised money to provide a new slide, but she asked Veolia for help to get the area ready to celebrate the Jubilee.

Veolia is passionate about giving something back to the communities where it lives and works. Last year staff gave over 10,600 hours of volunteering time to support community projects. The winners of the Clean Sweep for Britain competition will receive help from a team of volunteers to transform the park, then to top it all off the village will get a party on the Diamond Jubilee weekend to celebrate in style!

Richard Johnson, Projects Director at Veolia Environmental Services in Hampshire, said: “Olivia and the whole village have worked hard to make their park a popular centre of the community and Veolia have an army of volunteers to get it fit for a Diamond Jubilee celebration for everyone.”

Olivia was thrilled to find out her village park had won: “It definitely needed this, I can’t wait to see what it looks like in the end!”

The Clean Sweep for Britain competition, run in The People, invited communities from up and down the country to nominate an area of land that was in need of some TLC. Four regional winners were chosen by judges one from the Midlands, the North, the South and London. All finalists also receive a party over the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Weekend.
