Portsmouth MRF

How does Portsmouth MRF work?

Our MRF in Portsmouth opened in 1998 and was the first of its kind to be built in Hampshire.

Portsmouth MRF handles newspapers and magazines, card, aluminium and steel food and drink cans, aerosol cans, and the two types of plastic bottles collected for recycling across the county.  The process involves a combination of mechanical sorting and hand picking to produce material ready to be made into new products.

In 2012 Portsmouth MRF was upgraded and is now powered by electricity generated at Portsmouth ERF next door.  You can read more about the refurbishment in this press release.
