Love to reduce, reuse, recycle this Valentines!

Valentines Day is a time to show our love for one another but it’s also a great time to show how much we love our environment. Sheffield City Council and Veolia Environmental Services are encouraging residents to go green this Valentines Day by thinking carefully about the waste they create.

Veolia’s Waste Awareness Team have been in the city centre showing residents how to love the 3Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle by providing useful information on what to do with any waste produced from their romantic celebrations.

Veolia’s Waste Awareness Team’s top tips for a green Valentines are:

  • REDUCE - Reduce the amount of waste you create by sending an e-card and if you’re giving a present, use a reusable gift bag
  • REUSE - Get creative and make a Valentines Day card out of reused materials or a bouquet of roses out of old plastic bags
  • RECYCLE - Valentines cards, wrapping paper and cardboard packaging can all be recycled from home

Kate Hughes, waste awareness officer at Veolia says: “Our aim is to encourage everyone in the city to do their bit and love their local environment.  Valentines Day is a time for roses and romance and a great opportunity to reduce, reuse and recycle too!”

Sheffield residents can show their love for the environment by recycling paper and cardboard in the blue box and glass bottles and jars, tins, cans and plastic bottles in the blue bin.*
